Our experience of mentoring and developing cadets spans over 20 years. Our industry specific curriculums are tailor-made to serve the diverse groups of people who are beginning, or continuing, their careers in the offshore & marine industries

The Marine Engineering Cadets are responsible to the Second Engineer or their designate for the safe, environmentally responsible and efficient running of the Engine Room machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Make safety and protection of the environment the top priority at all times by adhering to the company’s personal
    protective equipment policies and safe working practices and procedures, under the direct supervision of the Engine Room Officer
  • Carry out general maintenance, inspection and verification tasks as instructed by the Second Engineer
  • Perform general watch keeping duties as instructed by the Engineer of the Watch
  • Contribute to Horizon Maritime’s Safety Culture by:
    – Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System
    – Possess the skills to perform job-related tasks and apply safe practices while performing physical tasks.
    – Have a thorough understanding of precautions and procedures related to the Safety Management System
    – Have thorough understanding of the pollution regulations and the company’s objectives regarding environmental protection

Mandatory Certification & Training:

  • Marine Emergency Duties
  • Transport Canada Marine Medical
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (TDG)
