Job Duties:

  • Obligated to execute the safety and environmental policy on board
  • Comply with (inter)national legislation, flag state requirements, accepted industry standards, Company decrees and contracts
  • In charge of the catering department, supervises work in galley and house holding
  • Supervises cleanliness of equipment, food storage and preparation areas and ensures compliances with hygiene rules
  • Elaborates meals with Chief Cook ensuring that the required standards of the company, are attained in accordance with specified requirements
  • Ensures victualing accountings, makes inventories, prepares provision orders and checks deliveries
  • Makes requisition of all spares and consumables that they may require
  • Supervises work of the steward and helps them in their duties (cleanliness of the mess room and the alleyways).
  • Perform administration duties as instructed by the Master with regard to galley and house holding operations
  • Ensuring the good state, maintenance and hygienic conditions of the accommodations, galley, storerooms and domestic appliances
  • Ordering food and cleaning domestic articles
  • The environmentally correct processing of waste products.

Requirements:

  • Licensed candidates must hold a valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency relevant to their position
  • Valid STCW MED Certificate of Proficiency
  • Marine Basic or Advanced First Aid, Marine Medical Care would be an asset
  • Seaman’s Book
  • Ship’s Security Officer or Vessel Personnel with Security Duties
  • Valid Transport Canada Approved Seafarers Medical
  • Good command of the English language, verbally and in writing
  • Able to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities as a Chief Steward as per ILO
  • Knowledge of the applicable codes, guidelines and standards
  • Knowledge of the equipment and procedures they are responsible for.
